LANAP® Laser Treatment in Centennial, CO
Nearly 50% of Americans currently have some form of
periodontal disease
, so spreading awareness about gum disease treatment options is more relevant and important than ever. In addition to
teeth and bone loss
, failure to seek gum disease treatment can lead to many other serious health problems. Recent studies have linked gum disease to diabetes, stroke, heart disease, and low birth weight babies.
Despite the health risks, people often delay seeking gum disease treatment because of the invasive nature of traditional surgery. Prior to the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure, a periodontist would typically treat gum disease by cutting into the affected gum tissue, removing the bacteria and decay, and stitching the tissue back up. In some cases, the periodontist might
remove the teeth
altogether and replace them with
dental implants
or full or partial dentures. With the exception of laser gum surgery, all other gum disease treatment options can cause bleeding, swelling, pain, and discomfort to patients as well as complications later on. Patients may need up to four weeks to recover from traditional surgery and experience substantial pain and swelling during the healing process.
Because laser gum surgery is so effective, patients normally need to visit the periodontist twice for two hour visits in order to complete their gum disease treatment. Patients who undergo LANAP® have less bleeding, sensitivity, and risk of infection. Moreover, dental professionals have observed greater predictability for bone regeneration and reattachment of gum tissue with LANAP®. It appears that laser gum surgery also provides a viable, long-term solution for managing gum disease, since 98% of laser gum surgery patients remain stable five years after the procedure.
